watch that foot!!

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Our buddy Anthony from Stunt Bums has a close call with the tire and chain on his stuntbike. The Nike SB’s held up well.. here’s the video and the excerpt from www.stuntbums.com

“Today started off great – I had a nice breakfast, we’re almost ready for our Dainese knee pad giveaway, and I was stoked to practice some new acros at the lot. When we got to the lot I immediately worked on learning switchback coffin zeros. I started by keeping one hand on my bar close to my triple but using my foot to actually apply pressure to the bar. After I got comfortable with that, I started moving my hand from my bar to my rear seat for a split second at which point I would low side. Then, after low siding 4 or 5 times, I started hopping off and running behind the bike right before the low side to save it. At this point I was feeling pretty comfortable with exiting the bike when things got hairy, so I started getting more confident, and was able to hit 1 or 2 with both of my hands on my rear seat until my worst fear happened – I bailed from the bike and my rear wheel sucked my foot into my chain.

When I landed on the wheel my foot got sucked and wedged between my chain, swingarm and rear wheel. As I looked down at my foot contorted in completely foreign ways I could only think of the worst and I’m pretty sure I immediately made some pretty emasculating screams to convey this to everyone at the spot. I at first thought we’d just throw the bike in neutral and I’d be able to spin the wheel to get my foot out, but my rear passenger pegs which were somehow firmly positioned behind my heel which made that impossible. We tried to untie my shoes and pull my foot out, but there was too much pressure coming from the chain to make that possible. After a few more failed attempts to get my foot out, and possibly some more masculine roars of pain, Andrew and I resorted to pulling on my chain with all our strength and someone else pulling on my foot to slowly de-wedge it.

In the end, everything was fine. I came home with a sore foot and am eternally thankful that the middle of my foot is what received all the pressure from the chain and not say, my toes. Tomorrow morning I’ll be putting on my rear tire hugger before we practice, I’m not risking this ever again!”
